1st Annual Charity Day

Introduction

Boame Helping Hands Foundation (BHHF) organized a day of service, deemed “Charity Day” to serve the members of the Darien, Norwalk, and Stamford communities in the United States.

The purpose of the event was to host our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, during which we distribute non-perishable food items and groceries sponsored by our church family and local supermarkets, to members of the community and families in need.

Participants engaged in complementary healthcare activities, including on-site health screenings for blood pressure and vital signs, as well as informational sessions and education on healthy eating during the holiday season.

In addition, Boame Helping Hands Foundation aims to provide relief to those who have been displaced from Ukraine due to the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. Charity Day provided the opportunity for participants to also handwrite letters to express seasonal love and cheer, to make the items being shipped overseas even more memorable.

ACTIVITIES

Activity 1: Thanksgiving Food Drive

In the days leading up to the event, a collection drive was facilitated for the drop-off of non-perishable food items for the event. Local supermarkets supplied sponsorships in the form of groceries and gift cards for additional non-perishable food items for the drive.

On the event day, BHHF volunteers helped to sort through the items to be given in the Food Drive and to the shelters. All items allocated for the drive were successfully distributed within the communities of Stamford, Darien, and Norwalk.

Activity 2: Health Screenings

Attendees voluntarily participated in a healthcare segment facilitated by licensed healthcare professionals. These attendees received general education on health screenings, healthy meal planning, and age-based preventative health measures to incorporate.

Attendees also voluntarily participated in a short physical education segment led by a licensed doctor of physical therapy and a personal trainer.

Informational handouts were given, and attendees were directed towards additional resources.

Activity 3: Letters to Ukraine

Boame Helping Hands Foundation seeks to provide aid to refugees who have been displaced from Ukraine due to the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. During our Charity Day, both children and adults that volunteered gathered together to write their letters. We were able to collect over 100 letters that will now serve as a beacon of hope to the recipients.

Activity 4: Visit to Shelters

The team partnered with two shelters to extend a helping hand to more families. These two shelters are mandated to prevent and end homelessness; and offer long-term support for mothers and their children while providing hope for life. Both shelters received a donation of non-perishable food items, toiletries, baby supplies, and other items to stock up their pantry room. We are grateful for all partners, donors, volunteers and participants whose service resulted in many receiving hope in the Thanksgiving season.
